The Demons nightmare wooden spoon season ended with their 19th loss of the year. After recovering from an early Simon Madden blast of three goals, Melbourne played an encouraging first quarter to be just two points down. The Bombers turned the game on its head in the second quarter by holding the visitors to 0.4 in the second term while piling on 7.2 of their own.
Best were Wells, Sullivan and Biffin. McMullin was replaced by Fitzsimmons and Baker by Williamson, both in the last quarter.
