Biggest win against University
In front of a small, subdued crowd Melbourne were too good for their opponents despite the absence of George and Tomkins from their side. On a hard, greasy surface neither side could field their best team and the match suffered accordingly.
Despite Melbourne's early lead the two sides were reasonably equal in the first half before they pulled away aided by University losing two players during the match - one to a burst artery in his arm.
Melbourne were only 17 points in front at the last change before running riot against the depleted Students in the last quarter.
Best were Brereton, Allan and Hickey.
