Melbourne's worst VFL season yet ended with another crushing loss, despite the opposition missing several of their best players. The Reds lead at quarter time, and they held their own until the last few minutes of the half before Collingwood took over.
The third quarter followed a similar pattern, with Melbourne playing reasonably well before Collingwood steamrolled them in the last few minutes. They did as they liked in the last quarter, and with Melbourne's resistance broken the Magpies racked up a big win.
Best were Sleeman, Onyons and S. Anderson.
