The Demon revival started to go into full gear with their win over Geelong. Neither side had consistency on their side so it was anybody's guess which way the match was going to. Luckily for Melbourne it went their way as the Cats never got any better than when they led by four goals to two in the first term.
Robert Flower was the instigator for the comeback, kicking the fourth goal of the term after being set up by a handball from Garry Lyon. His second goal came early in the second term and put the Demons in front after Flower had smothered Darren Flanigan's handball and snapped truly.
Six goals to two in the third quarter won the match, with Bret Bailey handy by gathering possessions of his own while simultaneously taking Mark Bairstow out of the game. Steven Stretch comfortably held Gary Ablett in front of the Geelong goals.
Best were Flower, Bailey and Wilson.
The win left the Demons two and a half games, and percentage outside of the five.
The Round 16 match was played after Round 17 as part of the two rounds being played over three weeks.
