Playing against a side who had lost six straight, and had travelled to Geelong twice in two weeks, St Kilda had their best chance for a maiden VFL win. They caught the Reds with a weakened team, but had several of their own missing.
It was a tame affair where neither side was in good form, and they spent much of the match scrambling. The margin was only 10 points at half time, but the home side were held goalless in the third term and couldn't bridge the gap.
