The finals contender Seasiders made the short trip to the MCG and were comfortable winners against the struggling Reds.
Melbourne's champion McKenzie was eclipsed, and the visitors added insult to injury with Algy Millhouse one of his side's best shortly after transferring after a disappointing start to his VFL career with the Fuschias.
The loss left Melbourne second last with only the winless University below them.
