Melbourne's struggles continued with another defeat where they barely fired a shot at home.
In a clash between the top and bottom sides on the ladder it was only for brief periods during the first and third quarters that they played reasonable football, but were always the second rate team of the contest.
Collingwood were handicapped by two of their best players taking the field under an injury cloud but their overall performance didn't show any ill-effects.
