Milestones:
Rising Star nomination - Adem Yze

Melbourne's last game against Fitzroy and last at the Western Oval saw them climb further away from the Lions at the bottom of the ladder with a second consecutive victory.

Adem Yze started on the bench, but was soon called into action when Darren Kowal was knocked out as Fitzroy kicked the first goal of the match - and he was one of the key reasons for the Demons' comfortable victory with a career high five goals.

Jeff Farmer was also prominent early, kicked three of Melbourne's first five goals and Melbourne ran away with the battle of the bottom two sides from the start of the third quarter when they kicked five goals in 15 minutes.

Best were Tingay, Obst and Yze. Kowal suffered a mild concussion.
