Last game against Fitzroy and last game at Western Oval
A second consecutive victory saw Melbourne climb further away from the Lions at the bottom of the ladder.
Adem Yze started on the bench, but was soon called into action when Darren Kowal was knocked out as Fitzroy kicked the first goal of the match - and his career best five goals was one of the key reasons for victory.
Jeff Farmer was also prominent early, kicking three of Melbourne's first five goals. The visitors ran away with the battle of the bottom two sides from the start of the third quarter when they kicked five goals in 15 minutes.
Best were Tingay, Obst and Yze. Kowal suffered a mild concussion.
