Melbourne's finals fairytale fizzed out at the third stage as they were played off the park by the home side. The Eagles dominated the first quarter to be 29 points up at the change, kicked early goals in the second quarter to effectively kill the contest, then plowed to a 63 point lead at half time while keeping the Demons goalless.
With the pressure off the Eagles in the second half they relaxed and only added another three points to the margin in qualifying for the Grand Final.
Best were Viney, Harmes and Brayshaw.
