On a fine day for football Melbourne took on a combined league team and won comfortably. The start of the match was delayed for 20 minutes while the Melbourne side was held up by a photographer.

Once the game started it became clear that Melbourne were by far the better side. They played with system while the locals were disjointed with poor discipline. With the umpire refusing to pay any free kicks against the home side until the second quarter the game became a scramble. In the end the total was 23-4 against the visitors, with three of the frees against Tasmania coming in the last quarter.

Melbourne dominated in the first quarter, kicking the first two goals of the game. Tasmania did better in the second, kicking one of their own but after half-time the play was one-sided in Melbourne's favour. They stacked on 9.5 to nothing in the third term.

The locals played their best quarter in the last, kicking three goals. Melbourne also kicked three and ran out easy winners.

Vin Coutie captained Melbourne. Onyons replaces Mills in the selected Melbourne team.

Notes
Some sources had the goal score as 17-3 or 13-3 and the opponent as 'Hobart'
