July 1894 match vs Collingwood

Saturday 14 July - MCG
Crowd: 2000

Melbourne 1.3, 2.3, 5.4, 5.5
Collingwood 0.0, 0.2, 0.2, 0.6

Melbourne win by 5 goals

Goalkickers: J. Graham 1, Roche 1, Christy 1, Moysey 1, McCarthy 1

On a quagmire of a ground Melbourne thrashed their visitors en route to a fifth straight win which left them third on the ladder. Neither side seemed to be committed to quality football in the conditions, and both spent time trying to keep the ball out of bounds as much as possible in windy conditions.

The breeze blew across the ground, keeping much of the play in one corner. Because of the conditions players could barely pick the ball up off the ground. When Collingwood did manage a rare foray across halfway they were usually quickly turned back by Melbourne's far superior defence.

Best were O'Dea, Fry and O'Halloran. McGinis was also amongst the best until taking a knock in the eye.
