July 1894 Match vs North Melbourne

Saturday 28 July - MCG
Crowd: 7000 - 12,000

Melbourne 0.5, 1.9, 3.12, 4.14
North Melbourne 1.0, 1.1, 1.1, 2.2

Melbourne win by 2 goals

Goalkickers: McClelland 2, McCarthy 1, McGinis 1

On a fine day, with a good surface and a dry ball - despite pre-match predictions of storms - the match followed script and the favourites won. Melbourne's ruck was too strong for the visitors, who played occasional bursts of brilliant football but not enough to seriously challenge the Reds after half time. Melbourne was wasteful with their kicking at goal, but were dominant in all other aspects of the game.

With the game long lost, North moved all their men on to the ball during the last quarter but couldn't bridge the gap.

Best were McGinis, Moysey and Christy.
