Debuted with the Lions in 1941 and played four games in his rookie season, but then didn't appear in another senior match until 1946 where he added one more match to his tally.
Cox played in the amateurs during 1947, picked as the centreman in that year's state side, then re-emerged with the Demons in 1948. He played two games in his first year, but his season ended prematurely when he suffered a broken leg. He returned for one game early in 1949 before retiring.
