Saturday 10 August - Albert Park
Albert Park 0
Melbourne 0 (half time 0.0 - 0.0)
Match drawn
Melbourne fielded a weakened team with fill-ins from the Second 20 to cover players who had recently retired. They had to start the game with 15 men, and didn't find a further four until half time.
The local side kicked with a strong wind at the start of the game, but Melbourne managed to confine the play to the centre of the ground. Playing into the breeze with less men, the Reds were made to work hard to stop the locals from taking advantage. Strangely, they created better chances in the first half with less men than when they expanded to 19 but neither side even kicked a behind in the first half.
Charles Carr had a chance to win the game late for Melbourne, but his place kick missed.
