August 15 - Melbourne Ground
Melbourne 0
Carlton 0
Match drawn
For the last match between the sides for 1868, both teams brought strong sides and the game was described as one of the best for a long time. No goals were scored but spectators were treated to a fast, rough contest which occasionally tipped over into brutality. Matters weren't helped by Melbourne adopting Carlton's tactic of holding players off the ball.
When a Carlton player was injured late in the day the match was brought to an early end.
Harrison and Freeman acted as joint captains for Melbourne.
