Despite a last round loss to Brisbane, the Demons entered the first final as favourites after a comfortable win over North in Round 8. They were beaten comfortably, unable to find a goal against the best defence in the competition until midway through the last quarter. They had opportunities, but under intense pressure were unable to create quality forward entries, and conceded goals on the counter. Despite being outplayed, the margin at half time was only 15 points, but after Lauren Pearce missed an early set shot in the third quarter the Demons conceded three goals to nil and the game was over by the final change.
Alyssa Bannan goalled to narrowly carry the score past their record low of 1.2.8 in Round 7, 2019, and avoided becoming the first team to go goalless in an AFLW final.
The loss meant playing a knockout Semi Final against Geelong the following week.
Best were Hanks, Purcell and Hore.
