In their first match since winning the 2021 Premiership, Melbourne took on the reigning wooden spooner in an unofficial practice match. After a slow start they took a handy lead into quarter time, then added five goals to nil in the second quarter to take a stranglehold on the game. The margin blew out in the second half, briefly flirting with a triple figure victory before consolation goals helped North restrict the damage to 88 points.
Best were Clayton Oliver, Christian Salem and Ben Brown. Salem injured his knee.
