1986 Fosters Cup Round 1
North Adelaide vs Melbourne
Tuesday 15 April
Venue: Football Park
North Adelaide win by 27 points
In front of a tiny crowd the 1985 SANFL's second best team beat the 1985 VFL's second worst.
The Roosters shocked Melbourne with their aggressiveness and attack on the ball, and when rain started falling on the already damp Football Park it looked like the handful of fans present were in for a low scoring contest. Five goals to one in the second quarter, however, buried the Demons.
In the third quarter Melbourne got to back to 6 points behind but couldn't capitalise and future Bomber Tony Antrobus kicked a goal which put Melbourne out of the side. Had they lost by 25 points or less Melbourne would have moved into a "best losers" playoff to go for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Best for the Demons were Lyon, Johnson and Stretch.
