Saturday 4 April - Toorak Park
Crowd: 3000
Melbourne 5.8, 9.11, 13.19, 15.19.109
Prahran 2.1, 5.4, 5.6, 8.15.66
Melbourne win by 43 points
Goalkickers: Baggott 5, La Fontaine 2, Glass 2, Foster 2, Ralston 1, Bennett 1, Roberts 1, Gibb 1
Melbourne sent in a strong team, as did Prahran, and it was quickly evident that both teams were taking the game seriously. The VFL side were continually on the attack, putting the pressure on Prahran's defence, and when the home side did have attacks they often broke down due to poor kicking.
Prahran were better in the second quarter, taking advantage of several missed opportunities by Baggott to only fall six points further behind. Both teams made a number of alterations at the interval, but Melbourne dominated the third term. They kicked 4.8 to 0.2 to take a stranglehold on the game.
Roberts, Ralston and Harrison were the best recruits, Baggott, La Fontaine and Mueller were best of the old players.
On the same day the Seconds played Brunswick and won comfortably.
