Saturday 10 October - MCG
Melbourne 3.7, 4.9, 7.13, 8.13.61
Geelong 1.3, 6.3, 7.3, 8.5.53
Melbourne win by 8 points
Goals - Lindsay 5, Comber 1, Kelly 1, Cassidy 1
Despite patchy forward play the Redlegs won the Seconds premiership as a result of their superior marking and ruck work. They made the visitors wait, arriving onto the MCG seven minutes late, allowing time for a light shower to fall on the ground before play started.
Geelong kept the match interesting by making more of their limited opportunities up front, after losing the toss and being forced to kick into a strong breeze they goalled first but let Melbourne kick three goals from 10 scoring shots by quarter time.
Against the wind, Geelong's only score of the third quarter was a goal on the bell. This restricted the lead to 10 points at the last change and gave them a chance to run over the top.
At three quarter time Melbourne opted for defence, taking Lindsay off after kicking five goals and bringing Noseda on. The Redlegs had to fight into the wind but held on grimly to win their first ever Seconds flag. Geelong missed a shot on goal to go ahead, and Kelly kicked the sealer.
