Played during a mid-season trip between Round 12 and Round 13, Melbourne's seventh visit to Tasmania since 1886 came a year after their shock defeat in the 1912 fixture.
They avenged their loss from the previous clash with an easy victory. In front of the Tasmanian governor and his family the first quarter was an even one, with the locals narrowly the better side. Despite this they only took the lead late in the quarter with their first goal.
Melbourne then took over in the second quarter with five goals - three in the space of five minutes early in the quarter. They opened up a gap of 28 points at the long break. The visitors failed to kick a ooal in the third quarter but the Tasmanians were once again extremely wasteful - and Melbourne ran out easy winners.
Hendrie, McKenzie and Lilley were best.
