For the second week in a row Melbourne met and beat a top team, though this time it was aided by a number of unfit Essendon players.They were dominant in the first quarter, not allowing Essendon any shots while they had two goals from eight kicks on goal. The home side recovered in the second when they had their turn with the breeze, taking a lead into half time with three unanswered goals.

Melbourne did the fatal damage in the third quarter, kicking four unanswered goals.

The match was preceded by a baseball game, and featured a mile run by the Auburn Harriers at half time.

Best were Fry, McCulloch and McGinis. Eddie Sholl dislocated his ankle.
