Defending their first premiership since 1900, the Redlegs were top of the ladder midway through the year, but from there they fell apart and missed the four.
Despite a far superior percentage to fourth placed Carlton, a four win/four loss end to the season put them a full game behind in fifth. The club blamed illness and accident for the inability to repeat the 1926 premiership triumph. Only five players managed to appear in all 18 matches, and most of the club's stars missed several matches during the year.
Players were given a bonus of 15/ each at the end of the year.
The committee consisted of H. Parker, JG Smith, GG Coulter, A. Sowden, JA Henty-Wilson, CH Lilley, GH Watson, C Taylor (football club appointee)
