The season was affected by an unusual number of rainy Saturday afternoons.
The Fuschias won the Premiership despite finishing 6th on the ladder. The controversy over this led to the adoption of the Argus Final Four System in 1901. It was the first championship they had won at any level since 1876, they would suffer another 25 year premiership drought before tasting victory again in 1926.
The Round 14 game against Carlton was originally scheduled to be played as Round 3 but was postponed until the end of the Home and Away season.
