Picked to debut in the middle of an injury crisis, full-forward Wregg had kicked one goal until he succumbed to injury from being inadvertently kicked by an opponent. He missed one game, before returning to play twice more. In May 1902 he was cleared back to Richmond Juniors.
In 1904 he served as a VFL boundary umpire, the first ever used in a Grand Final, and later field umpired 39 VFL matches between 1905 and 1908 - including the 1906 Grand Final.
