After overhauling a seven goal deficit to win a week earlier, Melbourne faced the unbeaten, top of the ladder Suns and won impressively. Led by four goals from Jake Melksham in his first game of the season, the Demons withstood a fast start by the Suns, closing the margin to seven at quarter time with a goal on the siren to Christian Salem. A six goal second quarter then gave them the lead, and the margin was out to 14 points at the last change before Melbourne went on to win comfortably, improving their record under new coach Steven King to an unexpected 3-1.
Best were Gawn, Steele, and Pickett. Bailey Laurie replaced Bayley Fritsch (foot) in the selected side.
