Bawden trained with the Reserves during the 1977 pre-season, but after being refused a clearance to South Melbourne he left and played local football instead - appearing in over 400 senior games for Parkdale, Chelsea Heights, Cheltenham, Cheltenham Assumption and Beaumaris before retiring at 39-years-old.
