In their first meeting with four-time Best and Fairest winner Clayton Oliver, Melbourne's poor record in Alice Springs home games continued. Their forward line failed to fire for the second week in a row, with Brody Mihocek playing a lone hand on return from injury. The Giants kicked the first two goals, before Mihocek's first two briefly put his side ahead again. GWS dominated the second quarter, but didn't get full value for what was out to a 25 point lead late after conceding the last two goals.
The visitors then got the first four goals of the third term to build a match-winning lead, and though Trent Rivers and Tom Sparrow goalled late to keep the margin to 27 at the final change, Melbourne had been comprehensively outplayed, and were beaten by the time they'd conceded the first three goals of the final term in quick succession.
Best were Jack Steele, Kysaiah Pickett, and Trent Rivers . Harrison Petty hurt his foot, Andy Moniz-Wakefield suffered a season ending knee injury late in the game.
