The son of Arnold Wilson, who had played two years for St Kilda from 1909 once reached the Stawell Gift final, but despite his pace he only played a single game in the opening round of 1934. Wilson was given his clearance to play for Melbourne in the days before the game, but it was then discovered he'd also received a permit to play with Essendon Seconds in 1931. Wilson then moved to Donald, returning to Victoria in 1933 and playing with the Myer's team. Essendon cleared him in time to play but his appearance at half back was his only game for the season.
Wilson remained with the club through the 1935 pre-season but didn't play again. After winning the Dandenong Gift footrace he as cleared to St Kilda in the 1936 pre-season, but didn't play a senior game with them until the next year. He remained there until 1941 when he crossed to Coburg without a clearance, earning himself a three year ban from league football. Wilson returned in 1945 for a final season with the Saints.
Wilson later joined Coburg for a second time, captain/coaching them in 1947 and reverting to playing only in 1948 and remaining there until 1950.
