Albert Park 0
Melbourne 1 (half time 0-0)
Melbourne won by 1 goal
Goalkicker: Edwin Towle 1
Melbourne only had 16 men and kicked into a strong breeze in the first half, but those who did show up managed to stoutly defend until three more players arrived. Albert Park had several attacks that fell on the last line or missed from short range and Melbourne survived until the change of ends on level terms.
The second half saw the ball immediately sent toward the Parkite goal, and it rarely escaped again. The winning goal finally came from a long Bennie kick out of the middle, which he followed up to kick again, where Towle took advantage of an Albert Park player slipping off to score from a scrimmage close to goal. The home side had one opportunity late courtesy of four marks in a row, but the defence held strong and Melbourne won.
Best were Charles Forrester, Moore and John Bennie
