Rover who initially travelled to Victoria in 1916 to play with Carlton. Even though Sturt were happy to clear him after one season, the South Australian league refused. He sat out two seasons before joining North Melbourne in 1918.
Known for his high stamina and ability to rove all day, he played 14 games in Melbourne's winless 1919 season before returning to add six the next year. At the end of 1919 he was was picked for a match between VFL and VFA players who worked in the public service. He played for the team representing federal government employees.
