Under 19s rover in 1979 and 1980 who joined Camberwell in 1981. Rejoined Melbourne's Reserves in 1983 and played five games but was seriously injured in a collision and missed 1984 while recovering. Hipworth returned to Camberwell in 1984, before quitting over unpaid wages. In 1984 he was loaned to Springvale where he suffered a broken neck. After six months of rehabilitation he was able to play again. He then played for Berwick in 1985 and 1986, Prahran from 1987 to 1989, Ballarat in 1990 and Oakleigh in 1992.
