In their first game under new coach Tom Wilson, the Demons kicked five goals in the first quarter, before the Hawks struck back to take the game into the last quarter level. After one goal in the middle quarters, Melbourne then recovered with three goals to nil in the final term to open their account for 2026.
Best were Hore, Purcell, and Harris. In her first senior game after two years out injured, Jacinta Hose hurt her ankle.
