Playing to move directly to a Preliminary Final, and avoid the unbeaten North Melbourne until a potential Grand Final, Melbourne kicked the first two goals of the game, and led comfortably at quarter time before the Lions struck back with three quick goals in the second quarter, and three to one in the third to take a winning lead.
Best were Hore, Mackin, and Gillard. In addition to Zanker's injury, Mackin hurt her right ankle.
