First refused a clearance to Melbourne in the 1934 pre-season, the rover returned in 1935 but Port Melbourne told Keating he couldn't join Melbourne without a clearance from North Melbourne, who had residential rights to him. North would not clear him, and Port would not clear him to North, so he had to return to Port Melbourne, and remained there through 1937.
Played for Saturday League side Havelock in 1936, and Brunswick in 1940.
