Used as a ruckman at St Kilda when he debuted in 1971 but couldn't hold down a regular place for the Saints before being sent to the Demons with Allan Davis and cash to secure the return of Carl Ditterich to Moorabbin.
Used as a centre-half back and full-back by the Demons.
Midway through 1979 he was cleared to Woodville, before moving to West Torrens for 1980. The two South Australian clubs argued over his clearance when Woodville refused an offer of $10,000, arguing they had paid Melbourne more than that to sign him and had also incurred expenses bringing him to Adelaide. Grambeau was sued for breach of contract after leaving West Torrens at the end of 1981. He wanted to fly in for games during the last year of his deal but the club insisted he had to live in Adelaide. He later returned to Victoria to play for Prahran between 1982 and 1985 before moving to Queensland.
Son of Mick Grambeau who played 53 games at North Melbourne between 1952 and 1955. North opted not to recruit him under the father/son rule.
