Former school football player who switched to soccer and athletics and was chosen as a free agent for Melbourne's initial AFL Womens. She had most recently played soccer for Calder United.

The forward was a member of Melbourne's first AFLW team, and played four games in the competition's inaugural season. Played in every Round during 2018, kicking the competition's Goal of the Year in Round 2 against Adelaide.

Newman had her best goalkicking season in 2019, booting six goals, including a record equalling three in Round 3. Had a poor 2020, failing to land a goal in any of seven games and kicking an inaccurate 0.7.
