DOB: 9 March 1964
Number: 23 (1987-1989)
Western Australia state representative - 1988
A forward who played in a premiership during his last year in the WAFL, Dean had the good fortune to cross to the Demons in 1987 just as they snapped their long finals drought. He had offers from nine VFL clubs but took a three year contract from the Demons, playing 19 games that year - now on a wing. His best performance in the Elimination Final massacre of the Kangaroos where he booted 3.4.
Not the most accurate of kicks for goal he registered 0.6 against Sydney in Round 5, 1988 and struggled with a knee injury suffered against Essendon the next week. He returned for another game in Round 20 but didn't feature in the finals series after the ill-advised comeback ended up with Dean back in hospital. Nevertheless that year he represented WA in the 1988 State-of-Origin carnival.
His opportunities were limited in 1989, playing just six games in the middle of the season and he left the club in the 1990 pre-season when talks on a new one-year contract collapse. After parting ways with the Demons, Dean joined West Coast in the 1990 Pre-Season draft but was unable to play a game for the Eagles. Due to injury he only played one WAFL game for Subiaco before his career ended.
