A forward who debuted with Norwood in 1992, Pitt was recruited by Collingwood in 1996 and had a purple patch in the middle of his first season when he kicked 11 goals in three weeks. Despite this early success he chose to walk away from the game the 1997 pre-season to return to his job as a police officer in South Australia.

Believing that he regretted the decision, the Western Bulldogs picked him up in the 1997 pre-season draft but Pitt opted to remain in Adelaide and never played a senior game for the Dogs. He returned to Norwood and won a premiership. After capturing their 1999 Best and Fairest, Melbourne was prompted to offer him a third chance at league footy.

This time he took the opportunity to return to Victoria, but after a delayed start to the 2000 season due to a shoulder injury the now 26-year-old Pitt saw limited game time in three matches.

Even though he often showed promise in VFL games, he struggled to earn a senior spot and returned to Norwood before moving to Salisbury North in 2003. He also played for the South Australian police side, Tea Tree Gully in the local amateurs, and for Renmark in 2012.
