Match Statistics

Essendon win by 5 points

Goalkickers: Jack Gardiner 2, Frank Langley 1, Dan Moriarty 1

Melbourne were the second best side on the day, but thanks to Essendon's terrible accuracy in front of goal they were unlucky not to take the four points.

Midway through the last quarter Melbourne led by 10 before Essendon's forwards finally redeemed themselves at the finish - kicking their side's second and third goals of the day to snatch victory. A goal to Jack Gardiner had extended the lead to three goals early in the last term and it looked certain that Melbourne were going to win before Essendon launched their comeback.

Best were Parkin, Coutie and Moodie.
