Round 10, 1970
Melbourne vs Geelong
Saturday 6 June
Geelong win by 17 points
Goalkickers: Greg Wells 3, George Lakes 2, Ray Carr 1, Denis Clark 1, Peter Keenan 1, Graham Molloy 1, Rod Payne 1
In the same week where Doug Wade was fighting to win a seat in Victorian Parliament, still waiting for postal vote results to determine whether he would win or not, he had one victory at least by kicking the Cats to victory over Melbourne.
Max Walker played an unfamiliar role at full-back and held Wade to 3.3, but with his own forwards failing to put any sort of meaningful score on the board it was Wade's third goal which sunk the Demons. 11 chances in the second term yielded just 3.3 and when the scores were level in the last term it was the strong marking of the Cats that got them over the line.
It was County Party candidate Wade's only victory for the week, the postal vote results gave the seat to his Liberal opponent.
Best for the Demons were Molloy, Payne and Wells. Keenan was replaced by Colcott in the last quarter. Derek Feldmann was an unused reserve.
It was Melbourne's eighth straight loss against Geelong - and their losing streak against them at the MCG now stretched back to 1964.
