Midfielder/forwarded drafted after playing in Footscray's 2016 VFL premiership win over Casey Demons. A year earlier he had played in a VAFA flag with St Bernards.

Played 20 of 22 games in his first season, before being dropped twice during 2018. He returned for the finals campaign, kicking the sealing goal on the run against Geelong in the Elimination Final.

A knee injury that required pre-season surgery kept Hannan out until Round 11, 2019, and on return he only kicked four goals in six matches before a groin issue ended his year. Hannan played a further nine games in 2020 before being traded to the Western Bulldogs for their third round pick at the 2021 National Draft. He played 17 games in his first season with the Dogs, culminating in the Grand Final loss to his old side.
