Saturday 23 May - Melbourne Ground
Emerald Hill 0
Goalkickers: J. Moodie, James Byrne
Having not won a match against a senior club in 1867 Melbourne finally achieved victory in their second showing of the new season.
Moodie got the first goal through Moodie after an hour, and shortly before the conclusion of play Byrne finished the game with the second goal. Emerald Hill had successfully blocked the game up with scrimmages to try and avoid the second, and Bell had helped them by missing two shots on goal before Byrne finally achieved the winner.
Henry Harrison was in the selected team but did not play as he instead led Geelong in their game against Carlton two days later.
