Tynan made his debut in the first game of 2012 after impressing in the NAB Cup series, but was dropped after the Demons' loss to Brisbane. Injury then derailed his season and he didn't return to the senior side until the last match of the year.

He remained on the senior list in 2013, wearing number 23, but failed to play a senior match and was delisted at the conclusion of the season. He then signed for VFL side Frankston for the 2014 season, then joined Port Melbourne in 2016. Tynan retired after the first game of 2018 due to concussion but returned with Essendon VFL in 2019.
