Moorcroft played nine VFA games for Preston, before being drafted to Essendon via the Northern Knights in 1994. He was initially delisted by the Bombers before being brought back to the club through the rookie list. The former Morrish Medal winner won a premiership in 2000 and took the 2001 Mark of the Year. After that his opportunities at Windy Hill dried up, and he was delisted at the end of 2002 in an effort to ease salary cap pressure.
Though Carlton was expected to draft Moorcroft to help add mature players to a side that had been affected by draft bans, Melbourne struck first. When he booted a miraculous goal with his first kick in a Wizard Cup game it looked like a shrewd investment, but a season-ending knee injury ended his Melbourne career after three games and he was delisted at the end of the year. Despite more speculation that he would join Carlton, it was the end of Moorcroft's AFL career.
In 2004 Moorcroft joined the Bendigo Bombers for 14 games, before moving to Silvan a year later, where he kicked 156 goals In the 2008 Yarra Valley Mountain League Division. In 2009 he played for the Romsey Redbacks in the Riddell District Football League (RDFL), and joined Northern Football League side Bundoora in 2012 where he remained through 2018. That year he coached their women's team to a premiership.
