Voted the best player at the 2007 Under 18 championship, Morton also ranked first of all draftees in aerobic capability by recording a 15.2 beep test result. After one WAFL game for three goals he was selected at the top of the 2007 National Draft and quickly slotted into Melbourne's senior side, earning a Rising Star nomination for a dominant performance in a rare win over the Eagles and being named Best First Year Player.
Despite a second wooden spoon campaign in 2009, Morton played several blinding games including 37 touches in the round 8 loss to the Bulldogs and 36 in the round 22 defeat by the Saints. After only missing one game for the season he was set for a break out year in 2010 before suffering an injury in a pre-season match which kept him out for the first half of the year. When he returned Morton spent most of his time playing across half-back and was dropped towards the end of the year.
After putting on 6kg during the 2011 pre-season, Morton ruptured a tendon in his finger shortly before the first NAB Cup game of the year and missed six weeks of the pre-season and the early rounds of the year. He returned in Round 3 but despite playing 14 games failed to impress, and when he put off signing a contract until the end of the season the suspicions grew that he would be playing his football elsewhere in 2012.
Eventually Morton re-signed, but his 2012 campaign was another disappointment. He played eight games in the first half of the season before being dropped. In the second quarter of his return to the senior side in Round 19 he suffered a shoulder injury which required season ending surgery.
At the end of 2012 he was traded to West Coast for National Draft selection #88. He made his debut for the Eagles in July 2013, spending much of the at East Perth and only playing three senior games before being delisted. In 2015 he played for VFL side Coburg, before joining Digger's Rest in 2016 where he remained through 2018.
His brothers Mitch and Jarryd played AFL football Richmond/Sydney and Hawthorn respectively. Morton joined them both at WAFL side Perth in 2014.
