Member of the MFC Scholarship Squad in 1975 and 1976 who graduated to the seniors in 1977. Despite remaining on the senior list the next year Marchant didn't play a game and was dropped from the senior list during the 1979 pre-season.
Returned to Mentone in 1980 and won seven consecutive Best and Fairest awards. Appointed coach of Beaumaris in 1997, and remained there through 2003 - winning two premierships.
