August 1886 match vs University

Saturday 21 August
Venue: Friendly Societies Ground
Attendance: Unknown

Melbourne win by 6 goals

Goalkickers: Baird 4, Dodds 1, Lynar 1

Poor weather cut down on the crowd who attended, and those who stayed away missed Melbourne's third win in a row. The first goal came within five minutes, and University were overwhelmed throughout the afternoon.

With the wind in their favour Melbourne got a second goal - a second to Baird - and restricted the visitors to a point in the second quarter when kicking into it. University battled hard in the second but were outmatched, and Dodds got the third to send his team into the third quarter with a three goal lead.

Baird completed his hat trick shortly after, and the margin was four goals. The same player added his fifth and Lynar kicked one in the last quarter to top off a thumping victory.

Best were Robinson, Baird and Edwards.
