For the second week in a row a lowly team got off to a fast start against the Demons, kicking a goal within the first minute. On return to their home ground, Melbourne had to withstand several minutes of pressure from the Saints, who were unable to add another goal with the wind before quarter time. The game remained tight for the first three quarters, before Melbourne charged to a big with with six goals to nil in the final term.
