The son of Jack Foster won the Latrobe Valley League Under 19s best and fairest and was recruited to the Demons as a seventeen year old. Stepping straight into the Reserves straight after his 17th birthday, he impressed and made his senior debut aged 17 years and 52 days.
After 22 games over four seasons, the majority in 1967, Foster was cleared back to Sale before the 1968 season. He stayed there until 1971 when he rejoined the Demons but didn't play another senior match.
